The Academic Senate of Los Angeles Pierce College is the voice of the faculty on the academic and professional matters of the College. Its primary function, as a representative of the faculty, is to make recommendations to the College President (or designee), with respect to academic and professional matters.
Commonly known as the "10+1" (as articulated in the California Code of Regulations, Title 5 Section 53200), the following define "academic and professional matters."
1. Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines 2. Degree and certificate requirements 3. Grading policies 4. Educational program development 5. Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success 6. District and college governance structures, as related to faculty roles 7. Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual reports 8. Policies for faculty professional development activities 9. Processes for program review 10. Processes for institutional planning and budget development 11. Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the governing board and the Academic Senate
The Shared Governance Agreement between the LAPC Academic Senate and the College Administration delineates our local shared governance policy.
The Academic Senate operates under the provisions of the LAPC Academic Senate Constitution and the Bylaws.
The Academic Senate meets every other Monday at 2:15 p.m. in the Great Hall during the academic year. To request to add an item to the agenda, please contact the Senate President by the preceding Wednesday at Noon.
